Re: CCT'S? ?????!!!
The worst option is to do nothing, the 2nd worst is to fit new standard ones, the other options are all good and depends on your budget. I personally choose the stopper mod, as it combines the benefits of the auto adjuster and it is fail safe when the spring goes. The fact that it costs nothing is ...

Re: Changing CCTs. Locking Tool
Just got my delivery of an APE tensioner from The Two Wheel Centre in Kings Lynn. My fault, thought I was getting two, not one, for my £60. Think I will order from the USA for the other one, much less at £41. Anyway, the locking tool you need when changing the tensioners. Do I need to buy a Hayne...

Make your own. 2 10 cm x 8mm bolts. 2 8mm locknuts. 1 6.75mm drill. 1 8mm tap. 1 8mm drill. Cost £5-£10 (local engineering supplies shop). Drill and tap the CCT body. Drill out the worm gear of the tensioner piston with the 8mm drill. Reassemble and tension untill firm by hand. Job done forever. ...

Re: manual cct adjustment
I've run over 10,000 on my Zephyr and heaven only knows on the KLX since the last adjustment. You will hear light ticking from the cam drive when the engine is fully warmed up, if the chains get a bit of slack. It won't be severe or loud, just ticking. Once the cam chains wear and seat in they will ...

Re: help fitting manual cct's...
I thought rule of thumb was to get them finger tight then back off 1 quarter. Yeah, you're right. I got so carried away that I missed saying that. If you are doing the cold set you finger tighten, regardless of strength, then back off 1/8-1/4 turn. In fine tuning with an engine warmed to operating ...

Re: help fitting manual cct's...
I hate to come off preaching, but: WHAT PART OF "FINGER TIGHT" DO SOME PEOPLE NOT UNDERSTAND? The object is to take only the slack out of the cam chains, not put any tension on them. It is worse yet if you start to bog the engine at idle. That is damaging tight. The goal here isn't just to...

Re: Torque wrenches
FWIW, I had a rider tip me on how to use a beam style (torsion bar) wrench when you can not easily view the scale. He put tape on the back and edge then marked it with a Sharpie marker at the torque value. That way he could use the wrench sideways, upside down and all without having to see the actua...

Griffo,
I got your PM, but can't reply to it through the PM. I have no idea why. Maybe I don't have enough posts.

Re: Manual CCTs
Yes, it is possible to overtighten them if you use a wrench on the adjuster and actually tighten it beyond what finger tight is. The thing is that the best adjustment is to have all the play out of the chain, but no actual tension. One thing to realize is if the adjuster bolt is an M8-1.25 (the ones...

For what it's worth, I make and sell the set for $73.95 usd (about £47) including shipping, but before VAT. I'm based in Delaware, Ohio, USA. Started doing the VTR set by request from a rider on The Superhawk Forum. http://p1.bikepics.com/pics/2011/07/05/bikepics-2235475-full.jpg Now has 20mm short...
