as you know ive got the same volt meter as you
just wire it to the ignition switch and there is no drain when bike not in use
easy really can get to where you need to be by just removing the clocks

quite a distance off then,and I don't travel to anywhere in your direction. I just thought it might be good to share thoughts etc I fitted mccts on mine last year and it all went good. if its not the timing then most likely candidate is the vacuum pipe on the tank in wrong position. this one catches...

cannot believe it ,exactly the same as mine and in the same position also.

as I understand it the one that goes to the headlight will turn the running lights off when you turn the headlight on .
so it needs to go to the dip terminal really
