Anyone in Norfolk area that can help?
Anyone in Norfolk area that can help?
Seriously banging my bloody head against the wall in frustration.
No seriously, I actually headbutted the wall
Ever since doing the CCT's my bike wont run properly.
Gutless, has a weird kinda 'chuggy' feeling and just backfires like crazy. Also its impossible to ride at low revs, it just wants to cut out all the time which makes it exceedingly dangerous to ride (if your stupid enough to try...)
Carbs are fine, hoses are fine, fresh fuel in tank - all the usual stuff is OK.
And as far as I can see the timing is OK.
I'll admit I'm not really too clued up when it comes to engines.
Just wondering if theres anyone in Norfolk area could come take a peek?

Re: Anyone in Norfolk area that can help?
quite a distance off then, and I don't travel to anywhere in your direction.
I just thought it might be good to share thoughts etc I fitted mccts on mine last year and it all went good.
if its not the timing then most likely candidate is the vacuum pipe on the tank in wrong position. this one catches people out all the time

Re: Anyone in Norfolk area that can help?
No worries matey.
Yeah I had a play around with the pipes and i'm 100% sure they are right as I photo'd the pipes before I took them off as I have a memory of a goldfish so I can say with relative certainty that it's not that.

Re: Anyone in Norfolk area that can help?
I was wondering the same as Robbo. Just to clarify, the vacuum take off pipe that runs from the rear cylinder to the petrol tap (this applies to the earlier models, 16ltr fuel tank) should be fitted to the spout that sticks out the side of the petrol tap (horizontal), not the drain-off spout that faces down to the road (vertical),

Re: Anyone in Norfolk area that can help?
It's easy to line up the wrong timing mark which can put the timing out by 1 tooth but the bike would still run and feel mostly ok. I agree with the others that you've put the vacuum hose on the wrong pipe, a disconnected vacuum hose would give the symptoms you have.

Re: Anyone in Norfolk area that can help?
what about the hoses from the carbs, they have that right angle bend in them, it's easy for them to pinch and restrict flow?
HEY YOU GUYS!!!!!!
Re: Anyone in Norfolk area that can help?
Also check clips are tight on carb mount rubbers

Re: Anyone in Norfolk area that can help?
I'm in Norwich but am not that good with engines either
Mine plays up as well but not that bad.
I once rooted the fuel pipe in the wrong way and that caused a miss fire and then a cut out
When I checked it all the pipes filled with fuel and then bike started ok but then started playing up again after about 100mts
But it does sound like this or timing seeing as that is what you have done

Re: Anyone in Norfolk area that can help?
Did you remove the front cam cover when you fitted the manual cam chain tensioners?
Cheers

I think you might have cracked it.
I'll give that a whirl and see if it fixes my issues

yup.
I did the valve clearances at the same time so everything was taken apart.
Re: Anyone in Norfolk area that can help?
Me love you long time.
Runs like a sewing machine now
Mrs aint happy though, spent all morning on the bike
One slightly alarming thing though, when starting or giving the throttle a blip from low lidle there's a kind of metalic 'slap' noise... Well thats the best I can describe it. It's not quite a 'knock'.
But when its running it runs sweet as a nut.
