Update on the Ultra light flywheel (Benny's cut).

I have been running the bike for over a year now with the 4lb 5.8oz flywheel.

I can happily report that I have experienced no bad issues what so ever. I was a little wary about it exploding at high revs tbh, but I've covered over 5000 miles with it fitted & regularly thrash it to the 9000rpm redline. The acceleration is so impressive, I think it borders on being addictive.

My only issue is that I've got used to it now & would like to go lighter

Rolling on that post..
I too have run an ultra light flywheel for well over a year now, almost two..... and the only concern I had was an imbalance causing additional wear on the crank plan bearings.
Post crash in Jan, I split the cases on my spare motor which has 16,000 miles and the motor that was in my crashed bike.
Bearing wear on the 62,000 mile motor was hardly more than the low mile motor and plastigage confirmed the visual inspection.

That's useful feedback, thanks.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I really want mine done but cant afford the cost of paying someone to do it, any chance of having a detailed image of how much needs to come off so i can find a friend with a lathe and try it myself.

of course i can exchange a set of carbs for the work ;) lmao
vtr parts coming out my ears but no light flywheels

Just have the disc taken down to 125mm od .
Just make sure it runs true before machining .

Another Yank getting his flywheel lightened (Id bet there is a joke there someplace)

Starting weight 7.3 lb (3311 grams)
Finished weight 4.5 lb (2040 grams)
Image

Lightened 2.8lb (1271 grams)

This is his second flywheel, the first was just a trim...this one was shave and a haircut :cool2
