I will, might as well practice taking valves out! Should I clean off the top of the piston at all?

Re: does this look normal?

Yes, you have two bent exhaust valves. No, you don't need to touch the other cylinder, except to replace its CCT with one that won't let you down. And, no, you can't tell if the cct in the pic has a stopper mod fitted; but given that the other one's failed I'd say it was unlikely.... Strip out the ...

Re: does this look normal?

Hardly any play in chain, but I guess I should replace the tensioner for a manual one unless the one I have already is that? My tensioner..http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r144/wrongwayup/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_0047_1.jpg Standard unless it has a stopper mod...if it has it hasn't worked... :(...

HI,
I did the cct screwdriver tension test, it sprang back. So I'm presuming they're ok. The tension looked ok on the chain when I removed the cam cover. But then I'm not sure what ok is! It all seemed in place.

Re: does this look normal?

Yes, the valves should be sitting just as the other two are with no pressure on them from the cam lobes. The piston doesn't appear to be damaged going by your photo. You say this is a bit beyond you, I'll say you've done well in getting to this stage  You'll need a valve spring compressor to ...

Re: does this look normal?

Cams are off so no pressure pushing them down. Should they not sit flat without a cam lobe pushing them?
Pic of piston here.. http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r144 ... C_0048.jpg

does this look normal?

Fear not, this isn't a sexual disease question.. I have stripped back my non working vtr.. It wouldn't turn even with cams off, so rear head removed as that's where the sound seemed to be coming from. Only one sheared exhaust bolt.. Pic of valves below hopefully. Do they look low/dropped? http://i14...

Re: New Bike, Seized Engine, CCT?

Ok, Teng 18mm turned up today.. turned engine over with plugs out, it goes fine for a bit then locks. Sounds like it is the rear part of the engine, I'm wondering if it's dropped a valve and that is the sound? It won't turn past that point no matter what. I haven't forced it for obvious reasons! Any...

The socket is missing sadly. No surprise there!

Re: New Bike, Seized Engine, CCT?

Ok.. so checked both tensioners with the screwdriver method, they are both fine... I have taken off cam covers and both chains are fine, none of the valve covers or whatever they are called have disappeared, which apparently can indicate a dropped valve.. Haven't got a 12mm spark plug remover and no...

Re: New Bike, Seized Engine, CCT?

Was that the yellow VTR of ebay? if so I asked the owner : Hi mate, a couple of questions, what year is it please? when you say it ran rough, was it knocking/clattery?? and is the engine locked solid? His reply was: Its a 1998 bike it was knocking then stopped running now wont turn over not sure wh...

Re: New Bike, Seized Engine, CCT?

just remember you might get a bit of resistance undoing the cap on the end of the alternator cover. they are soft metal and if corroded may round out the hexagon. if its not been removed in a while a few dabs of grinding compound may lock the allen key in, but worst case scenario is threads may str...
