Boots

Post by mattbridges »

Anyone recommend a decent brand of boots - my alpinestars (9 months old) litteraly fell apart today.

Do the have any kind of guarantee? I can't find my receipt!

Thinking SIDI or alpinestars race/road style.

Really depends what you want the boots to do?

Outright protection?
Waterproof?
Comfort for walking round in?
Affordability?

Personally I've been very happy with my Hein Gericke PSX's

Probably outright protection. I don't do much walking about in my boots!
Waterproof is a plus but I don't think I've ever had a pair of boots that were REALLY waterproof.

Affordability is always nice - I've still got my insurance claim to go through so I'm shopping outside of my usual budget :-)

Sidi Vertigos. They aren't as expensive as the Corsas but you get the same amount of protection and they look pretty good. Had mine two years and they now feel like slippers. Tough as old boots!

Surprised the Alpinestars fell apart. I got some Alpinestar GPS (?) about 5 years ago and up to last year was doing about 15000 miles a year in 'em. V comfortable only a bit scuffed (no sliders). And i wear a pair of Sealskinz over my socks to keep water out. Oh and only paid £85 for 'em
.... no more bike, divorce sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I couldn't find the receipt so I email alpinestars. Got an email back from some guy there saying give them my mobile number and they'll call me about it.

So I did - and <shockingly> they did call me back.

New set of boots will be sent out when they've had a chance to look over mine.

- Cool -

I bought some SMX-3 that were on sale :-)

Oxtar TCS, very comfy however after 3 years one of the ankle hinges broke so I took them back to the shop and they were replaced without question.

The new pair took the obligatory 3 weeks to break in but they are fab boots, prb the best protection you can get for your feet.

Updating an old thread - any recommendations for a summer boot? I don't wear leathers, so colour co-ordination is not an issue, and I'd like to be able to walk around a bit without crippling myself or falling over!

Kaz, i think there is a place in Catterick that makes made to measure boots, when i was staying there last year i bumped into a guy on a bike who said he was there to get a measureing done. not sure where it is though, some of my mates that are stationed there might know i'll ask if you need the info.
