Help guys

Post by Mickydjpjs »

Hi all been out on my storm today about 200 miles..when i got home battery was smoking, disconected and removed it.. I,m guessing the rec,reg is shot and putting too much charge to the battery? ...iv,e ordered a new one to fit, and was just wondering has anyone else had this happen? ...the rec,reg was the original and iv,e read on here that they don,t last long....bike has 20 k on it...ive ordered the finned type...could there be another cause ???? Please help cos i dont want to miss any riding time...thanks mick

if you can get the smoke back in it should be ok
chances are its buggered but fit the new finned type and see if it works
look up the workshop and check out the yamaha R1 R/R mosfet bit of work but its the best upgrade
told you not to but oh no you knew better

It's likely that the R/R has overcharged and boiled the battery. You will need to replace both as the battery is likely to have damaged cells. If you use a bad battery with a good R/R it will kill the new R/R or vica verca. Don't get caught in that trap of going around in circles so change both.

Beware not all R1 R/R's are of the Mosfet type.

whatever you do,dont buy one of the Chinese ones as a replacement they are worse than the stock Honda ones,it will go on you within weeks, ruining your new battery.

I went for a oem Honda cg125 finned reg/rec, £20 & 5 mins to fit.

But Mofset is the best option if you are prepared to do a little fiddling.
