Touring Bike

Hi everyone, A work mate of mine is doing a Biking holiday across Europe, France, Spain, I think, nothing major but far enough next year and asked me for any recommendations for Touring Bikes as he don't want to use his Harley.
I told him I no nothing but will ask you guys on here

Any recommendations, lets say between 2-5k money, think he wants speed, but above all comfort !!!

i tried a Pan, lovely but you can't have too much fun on your own on it, the CBF i think you can.

Well I bought a 1990 Pan European earlier this year because it was cheap and needed resurrecting after 10 years parked. Has an all day ride position, great wind protection, low c of g and is a surprisingly nimble ride. The bike has a very heavy crank so initially feels slow, but once wound up the thing feels unstoppable. I've replaced the shock and have new fork springs on order and have revalved the front end, and it now handles well over any surface although prefers a steady arc rather than point and squirt. My only criticisms are a slightly noisy screen and underwhelming 2-piston front brakes, and lack of ground clearance when pressing on a bit.

I traded in my touring TDM900 fro a BMW R1200RT 2007. It's a superb bike and I paid just over £5,250 for it. You could get a 2006 one for under £5K. They are a dedicated touring bike, handle really well and you can ride in the rain and hardly get damp. The adjustable screen is amazing, 27litre tank and 55mpg in all day comfort.
