Is it just me or do other folk look on motorway riding as a bit masochistic?
I just did St Davids (the welsh one not the scottish one) to St Albans via Fishguard, Cardigan, Llandovery, Merthyr Tydfil, Cardiff, Chepstow, Gloucester, Oxford & it was great. Admittedly I was under no time pressure and could stop and gaze at scenery ad infinitum. Main problem was the bloody potholes, don't get me started........

Hate motorways with a passion ,mainly because no one has been trained on how to use them .
Give me the longer twisty route anytime .

Re: Motorway avoidance
I picked up a storm from manchester a couple of months ago. It was wet and cold.
When i got there i found the bike was equipped with RaceTecs ..... that sat nav the proceeded to send me down the A628 Manchester to Sheffield
Would have been a dream in the dry but i was longing for a motorway that day

Re: Motorway avoidance
i worked a route from SW Scotland down to south of Birmingham avoiding all motorways.......... some great places to see up on the moors, and I made it link lots of good motor biking roads... but it has so many little towns and villages that it too about 7hrs.
but in general [on the bike] I only use m-way when it makes sense to avoid huge built up areas like the Manchester / Liverpool segment when going north

We haven't got any motorways in Cornwall either, although plenty refer to the dual carriageway as the motorwaylumpyv wrote:I don't mind 5 or 10 miles but any more , no thanks .
