Armadillos are really cool. They are about the size of an American style foot ball. They mostly move about at night and root around for grubs. They dig little holes and trenches but do not do damage like a hog. I have an out building that used to be a larger chicken house. I was standing behind it one evening as it was just getting dark and I heard a snuffling sound. I stood very still and two armadillos were working their way across the ground in my direction. They never noticed me and were rooting around at me feet. They were very fun to watch up close.

An armadillos' natural defense is to jump when startled or attacked. This may work well in the wild but it has sever drawbacks when dealing with fast moving cars and trucks. You never want to touch armadillo. They carry the disease that causes leprosy. They also have very strong and sharp fore claws and they can rip you pretty good. They are like a little armored anteater.

We have a bigger problem with skunks. They carry rabies.

We have hedgehogs over here. They don't taste very nice. But they are handy for picking your teeth after.

And Foxes. I live in the country now where there are lots of guns and very little love for foxes. You see very little fox road-kill as they are kept down to manageable proportions. When I lived down south in a satellite town 20 miles SE of London the foxes were rampant. I'd regularly see (and hear) groups of up to ten marauding down my suburban street. People used to leave food out for them and very few people kept stock. Bloody nightmare it was...

Where I live in Watford it's a common sight to see foxes rummaging in bins since we have had multiple bins for our rubbish. The woman that lives below my flat feeds them and the pigeons. She don't see them as vermin. As been said bloody nightmare.

We have coyotes. They range at night and look a bit like a starved German Shepard that someone set on fire. The do howl and bark at each other at night like an old cowboy movie.

I had a buddy who owned an older, two story house next to a women that fed the pigeons. They are like rats with wings. He would sit with the window opened an a darkened, second story room and shoot them off his neighbors house with an air rifle.

I have an air rifle but as i live next to a busy road and close to another block of flats (apartments) poking a gun out of the window is out of the question unless i want to get arrested. There will ALWAYS be a do gooder to report it.
