Though point 1 is probably mostly true, race compound tyres really are awesome when used with tyre warmers.
My brother and I have so much confidence in the scrubs we use. We took 20 sec a lap off at Oulton this year on them.
I'm sure you are right. The point being that sticking race tyres on a street bike and popping down the shops ain't the way to go.

The problem with race oriented tyres is their envelope of performance is much narrower than 'road' tyres, poor when cold downright dangerous in the wet , I know this from experience, last years op storm Yorks was a good example I went from leading the prog group from ribble to Hawes to riding as if on ice when the rain came, is this compromise worth it ? probably not but when they are warmed up and in the performance window there's nothing better, even the best 'sports' tyre isn't a patch on a track tyre.

I'm tempted to say, feck it, I'm coming. It's a long way from Northumberland for an old git. But, have rucksac and bottle of Scotch, will travel. Need to adjust the bike this morning. Who knows. May see you....

I'm aiming to leave around 1 ish from Wakefield West Yorks, I'm going down in the van but there's room for another bike in there if you want to ride to Yorks on the bike and then carry on down in the van it would make the trip a bit easier.

Have a great weekend everyone. I was contemplating making a last minute journey up but things haven't come together, too much to do... I might go to a Katana owners meet on Saturday as it's not so much about the riding, I can take my van and just go up for a social, or there's a local show I could go to but reality is I'll probably end up working on Saturday
.
