Downpipes

Post by toonarmy »

While I'm in the process of having some panels re sprayed is it worth getting down pipes chromed or do they tarnish quickly with the heat?

If they are standard headers they can't be chromed as they are stainless .
Hence why I spent hours polishing .But well worth the effort

You can read and see the photo's of what I did with my headers here:-

I did wonder if it was possible to have stainless steel chromed, now I know,

Should I order new studs or do they come off easy

Mine came off without problems but quite often they snap .
I ordered some new stainless steel studs and nuts and changed them anyway .
I soaked mine in wd40 for a few hours prior to attempting to remove . But don't be suprised if at least 1 snap

Wd40 is ok but plusgas freeing spray is way better imho it's better at penetrating threads and wd40 is more of a moisture disspersant.if you can build little plastercine dams around the nuts to hold the oil in ,also you can buy plusgas in non aerosal form ,good luck buddy.

cut through the nut, remove the pipes, clean up the threads with a die nut, replace pipes, new nuts and apply copperslip and bobs your uncle

remove nuts every 6 months, apply copperslip and replace nuts. always worked on my bikes for the past 30 years.
missing the noise, not the vibes. However never say never!
