suggestions for something new please..
I have had some spare time over the last couple of days and started to make something different for my bike again.. can I ask for suggestions if you think things need changing or improving as several view points can be better than the one. It may be a little heavier than standard but I'll make the titanium nuts, washers and spacers etc to go with it but it will make a nice change from standard and something a bit different from everyone else. This is a mock up to see where it needs changing or not?
This is them on the bench
They then attach and bolt to the swingarm (excuse this as it is a spare I have for modding later) using the original M8 adjuster thread.. the square bit on the end slides down onto the swingarm and leaves the radius to but up against the radius that is there...The travel and adjuster markings run the same length as the swingarm allows (24mm)
The standard spindle is too short now with the addition of the 10mm adjuster either side
But the spindle from the swingarm that was kindly donated will fit perfectly once I have added the titanium spacers and nuts
It seems to work well by just turning the "captive" caphead in the back of the adjuster, again these will be swapped for nicer items..
So there you go.... anyone see anything I could do a little or a lot better or should be re-designed which could make these a little better?
I also understand I will be making new spacers on the inside of the swing arm a little thicker than standard to fill the gap of the original adjuster that is no longer there..
Thanks for any input

Nice idea Mark and very well executed as always.
What about incorporating the race type quick lift hooks on the bottom? Don't know if it's feasible but would look trick.
I know T.Mon has probably just had a boxer eruption as he has been looking at ways to improve this area.

I thought about it and could do it but I don't have a paddock stand and it'd be surplus bits hanging off for no reason.. could easily be done though.

Even just a threaded bit/loop at the bottom for us to add our own?

top work matey.....
have you thought of making a lightweight rear and front subframes?
I don't think you have many standard items left on your bike....

suggestions for something new please..
Edit
Lol .
Would you still have the loose bolt adjuster like the standard one .?
I know my off side one works loose and the clip holds the bolt in place so it don't get lost .
Not bring clear am I DOH
On my right hand side adjuster the bolt works loose after a few miles and a little clip holds it in place so you don't loose it .
Can you incorporate something like that into it so you don't loose the bolt ?
Yep paddock bobbins would help hide the extra length .
Can I have mine in black please :-)
So now we know why you wanted the longer spindle !

Edited other post
Re: suggestions for something new please..
like them ..........its going to cause a run on 2nd hand swingarm spindles
agree that if a race type paddock stand hook was added that would look trick, or a boss to fit a bobbin.
and Anodised options in black or Gold?

Shame you cant make a complete sexy unit to go on the end and cut that hideous thing that Mr Honda fitted so you can weld your nice shiny well engineered item in its place, better than making do with what you have you can make what you want.

The M8 bolt that bolts the unit to the swingarm can be tightened right up and held in place with blue Loctite, so shouldn't come loose. the other one that does the adjusting is help by a captive system (a groove in the caphead diameter and two pins/screws either side that go through the groove) so that again should not fall out or work loose.. also though this way they do not get longer/shorter than what you see when you wind them from one extreme of travel to the other.
I could do that but it will involve welding costs etc and thought this may be a nice little slot in extra with no real work or welding costs involved for the road bike... but then again if I am having the arm modded anyway it may be a good idea to change them completely for the next build?bazza696 wrote:Shame you cant make a complete sexy unit to go on the end and cut that hideous thing that Mr Honda fitted so you can weld your nice shiny well engineered item in its place, better than making do with what you have you can make what you want.
