Got me bike back!!

Post by firestorm996 »

Eyup all

Got my zed back from being repaired after the highside in december, it's got all new bodywork (was blue now black) and it's as if I've got a new bike, the black just goes really well with it. Stealth bomber or what. :)

Just need the weather now so I can get out for a spin...the photos don't do it justice but were the best I could do as it was snowing outside!

Pros...

Nice and compact, flickable
Less of a licence-loser than the VTR
good underseat storage with the seat hump
good headlight compared to VTR
digital fuel guage a definite plus
150+ miles to reserve unless caning it (even then it never gets less than 120 to reserve)
my missus much prefers the pillion position to the storm
Motor is smooth at low rpm but takes off like a scalded cat above 9k

Cons...
Seat is a bit firm, I've had mine rebuilt with more foam and is much better
Motor vibes a bit @ around 6krpm which is motorway cruising speed
Vibes mean that the mirrors go blurry above 80mph
Winter salt can take its toll but I don't think it's any better/worse than the storm in this respect as the storm motor corrodes easily for a honda
obviously lack of a fairing is a consideration coming from the VTR but I find this helps keep your speed down a bit
I miss the v-twin sound, if you could stick a twin in the zed it'd be perfect!

750 vs 1000
The Z1000 will take engine case sliders
Z1000 do cost a good few quid more
Don't be fooled by the USB forks etc on the thou, the 750 handles better out of the crate although there's no adjustability on the forks, the rear shock on the thou is it's min weak point and is known for pogo-ing through fast bends
