Misfire

Post by Hooner »

:? Just bought myself an 02 model firestorm(pre registered new ), but have found an intermitant misfire/blowback at low revs on overun..i`ve just had the first service and when told of the problem , the dealer ( George White) say it`s normal and that all Firestorms do this ..is this true ??

:confused

I've done just over 5,000km (3,000 miles) on my new (Dec 2002) storm and never had any popping or misfiring on overrun - standard exhaust.

However the carb balance was way out from new, and not picked up on first service. After I balanced the carbs myself, it is much smoother.

There is another recent post recgarding this issue. However I found that the missfire got better the more miles that were on the engine. Balancing the carbs will probably help if it is a real problem.

There was an adendum to the workshop manual because there was a problem with bikes stalling / missfiring under braking. Don't know if it is related but here is the page that details the fix.

I think this stalling at idle problem only affected early models. For 2001, Honda revised carb settings (as well as ignition, suspension etc.) and applied the fix for this problem.

Mine is a 02 model, so it`s doesnt look like Honda have sorted it.....
I must admit..the blow back / missfire is not as bad as when i first had the bike, but never the less it still happens....and yes..it is mainly at low revs.. :(
