Stick it in. See if it works. If not. Replace.
Simples!

Yes, but I’m a way off any power yet and while the tank is still awaiting a de-rust and in bits I need to test this, as there’s some cheap on eBay right now if it’s faulty.

Does it measure the actual level or just sense when fuel is low? I was thinking could the bit with wire be tested in water or even petrol and what readings should I be looking for?
