2nd bite of the cherry

Hey
Old/new owner here in North Wales
Just bought a 98 18,000 miler in excellent overall condition but runs like it’s got Tourette’s.
This is my second firestorm after having one brand new in 98 to 2001.
I suspect this one just needs a good carb service and tps setting correctly and some new plugs but any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
It has a lumpy tick-over well below 1,000 rpm and when riding it feels like it’s either being starved of fuel or going onto one cylinder when picking the revs up after slowing for a roundabout or lower speed limit etc.
did think it could be coils but I’ll look at carbs first as it’s spent most of its life stationary.
Where do you recommend for seals etc?
I’ve looked at David silver and eBay but no luck?
TIA

Welcome aboard

I usually look up the part number on a Honda site (such as https://www.ronayers.com/oemparts/c/hon ... ycle/parts ) then put it in a search engine and go from there. Fowlers is another you can try, or end up looking further afield as in abroad. The problem is our bikes are getting on a little in years now, so a lot of suppliers will need to order them in for you.

If you've not already, it may be worth checking out the vacuum hoses for splits etc before pulling the carbs apart, also what is the air filter like :?:

Is it running poorly at low revs, but suddenly running strongly at higher revs?
If so, a vac line may be disconnected.

Update.
So it’s been a few weeks now and I’ve finally solved it
Tried new vac lines, carb removal and clean inc new pilot jets, new air filter and carb balance.
No real improvement and couldn’t help feeling that it was more of an electrical fault.
So, replaced the plugs, caps and coils and Bingo!
It’s running like a dream now
Thanks for all the advice
