Old battery was firmly stuck in the battery box, so took ages to lever it out.

Discovered why. It was swollen due to over voltage charging by the duff RR which was on the bike when I bought it.

Surprised that it hadn't ruptured! 8O

I thought for a second you had put it in an over :eh:

What a state that is. Like you say, lucky it didn't rupture,

Chris.

Fixed the LHS indicators sometimes not flashing yesterday.

Knew it wasn't a flasher relay problem, as the RHS indicators always work fine.

Took the switch cluster apart, and found dried-out hardened grease in there, which was preventing contact of the small brass slider to the LHS switch post.

Cleaned it all out with contact cleaner and cotton wool buds....now working fab.

Bit of a fiddly job with the tiny screws inside holding all the parts together.

At least you didn't lose any small parts from inside the switch, good job, well done

Chris.

You were lucky. That does sound like the bike I rode 5 yrs ago. Back then the battery stank after the short ride and I warned the seller. That and the crazy alarm. Doesn't sound like it did any running in 5 yrs 😲

It must be the same. Was parked up for quite a few years as the previous owner was ill and passed away. Bike was then sold by his family to the dealer I bought it from.

I've been through everything now, and it'll be a good bike

Can't wait for better weather to get out and about on it.

That explains it. The owner wasn't that old compared to me!....still you'll have a well sorted machine. Roll on some spring warmth

Yep, can't wait to get out on it

Been using my 1990 'hack' ZZR11 in all this salty slime.
Every year I think it'll be its last...but it just keeps on going with constant cleaning and maintenance. 72K mikes on it now.
