New Firestorm (to me, at least) - things to look out for

Hi all,
I'm about to buy a 1998 Firestorm, almost immaculate condition - not a scratch, no road wear/tear - all original except for Remus cans. It has 21,000 km on the clock, and judging b y the overall condition of the bike, that might actually be real!
The engine starts first turn, runs smoothly, no rattles, ticking, chuffing, or whining that I can hear - and it fair bounces when the throttle is blipped.
I'm just wondering if there is anything more specific I need to be looking for.
It's red - very red...
Any input very welcome as it's been a couple of decades since I bought a bike...
Thanks all,
Graham

Thank you so much!
From what I can see, the bike seems free from the issues described - so far at least.
Great post - and very useful!
I’m buying it tomorrow - so we shall see how it all pans out…
Thanks again!

Check things like the rear suspension linkage by pushing down on the seat, you shouldn't hear any odd noises as you do that. Another thing, that can rust (well here in the UK anyway) is the stud and nuts that hold on the front header-pipe to the cylinder.

Good luck,

Chris.

I have just bought mine to. 62000km on the odo, -99. There is a bit of corrosion on the terminal on the starter, but i think i leave it that way, but i did fill waterproof grease on it. Then i checked the valvecleareance witch was a bit on the tight side, but within, so i left em. Im gonna, instal ETL M-CCT'ers, change airfilter, plugs, coolant, oil in the fork, oilfilter engine and engine oil and grease up the suspesnion link/swingarm.

I can see some dents of rust on the chrome on the fork legs, but il get the right polish and il think it wil do the trick. I will also spray siliconspray on hoses, wires and contacts.
:)
