Rev Limit?
So I've done a bit of searching on the forums and can't find a definitive answer to this - was wondering, does the VTR have a rev limiter, and if so, what RPM does it kick in at?

Rev Limit?
Yes it does .
You'll find it as your nuts hit the tank :-)

Thanks for that! So at what revs do your nuts hit the tank then?lloydie wrote:Yes it does .

Normally it's 1k into the red .

Re: Rev Limit?
The rev limiter hits at 10.3K RPM with the stock ECU ![Thumbup ](./images/smilies/icon_thumbup.gif)

Re: Rev Limit?
and the HRC ignition box does NOT have a rev limiter, trust me on this...

Re: Rev Limit?
That is why I stated the stock ECU.... that is the one "draw back" to the HRC unit and it does make you a bit careful in the upper RPM range.....mik_str wrote:and the HRC ignition box does NOT have a rev limiter, trust me on this...

Presumably these have HRC stamped all over them.mik_str wrote:and the HRC ignition box does NOT have a rev limiter, trust me on this...

they are quite rare and those who have one know it.....freeridenick wrote:Presumably these have HRC stamped all over them.mik_str wrote:and the HRC ignition box does NOT have a rev limiter, trust me on this...

Yeah, I know they're like hen's teeth but I'm not 100% sure of the mods on my bike and I thought I'd taken mine past 10.5k without hitting the limiter last year.mik_str wrote:they are quite rare and those who have one know it.....freeridenick wrote:Presumably these have HRC stamped all over them.mik_str wrote:and the HRC ignition box does NOT have a rev limiter, trust me on this...
I was probably wrong and I've not had a chance to try again.
Re: Rev Limit?
The HRC units are not that clearly marked (in terms of cast-in-plastic identification). Mine has a small yellow carboard taped to it which identifies it as an HRC piece.... Kind of cheap looking to be honest, but as my dyno mishap showed, the real McCoy......

Re: Rev Limit?
Mine just has a different ink stamped number. Other than that they look exactly alike.....mik_str wrote:The HRC units are not that clearly marked (in terms of cast-in-plastic identification). Re: Rev Limit?
Well time to give away an "Old Guy" tip if you are hunting an HRC box.
On the 2 "know good" HRC ECUs that I have had my hands on( the one in my bike and the first unit I had which I later sold, both of which had the proper HRC paperwork....the famous run 92 octane sheet
) I did notice they were stamped "VTR1000f"
The stock ECUs just have a part #
Another way to do a quick test, besides Miks blow the engine up test....
, is to put the bike in gear with the side stand down.
If it shuts of, it is stock. If it keeps running there is a good chance it is a HRC box.![Thumbup ](./images/smilies/icon_thumbup.gif)

Re: Rev Limit?
Checked both of mine out at the weekend and they both look standard. Same part number bar the last four digits: MBBA 001A. Thanks for the extra info.8541Hawk wrote:Well time to give away an "Old Guy" tip if you are hunting an HRC box.

I figured I was wrong. I probably only just went past 10k so wasn't even close. More commitment needed.
Re: Rev Limit?
Well just to add some more questions to the mix..... My ECU has a P\N of MBBA 003A
Which makes one wonder if there are different ECU maps for different regions....
But those sound like stock ECUs and you will know when you hit the rev limiter......don't ask how I know![Angel ](./images/smilies/icon_angel.gif)
