Ashes Scattering.

Post by bigtwinthing »

Yesterday the family met on Portland to scatter Dads ashes at sea. I was up at 6 making chilli for about 40 and then went up to my Brother in laws Beach hut on Portland for the Family meet. Wow what a day. Dad was canoed out by 1 of his sons ( no mean feet considering Portland tides and the wind)he read a prayer over a Walkie Talkie and scattered Dads ashes as we all sat on the rocks blubbing. What a send off to a fantastic Navy Man who loved the Sea. Very moving. We all had a great day and the Chilli went down a treat until the cold and mist meant we all went home.

He has left me in his will all the Falklands Photos ( we were both there in 82) and Tug info that we used to share. RIP Jack Cranny.

What an awesome send off Paul, and as you say a very fitting one for a fantastic Navy man who loved the sea. I'm glad it all went well, especially the part taken on by one of his son's with the canoe in those conditions. I'm sure he would be very proud of what you all did.

Lovely too that he left you the Falklands photo's and the Tug info you used to share, considering you were both there in 1982,

Chris.

Apologies for the late reply Paul. Glad he got the send-off he deserved, and thanks to you and Jack for your service on behalf of all of us. The UK is not alone in treating ex-members of our Armed Forces badly, and I hope that will change one day.
I'm so unlucky that if there is such a thing as re-incarnation I'll come back as me!

Not really mate but I will be. Life's taken a bit of a twist for me and and as the old saying goes "what goes up must come down". I need to go back up now. The forum is putting a smile back on my face though and the better weather helps. :)

My old man is ex RN so I have an affinity with the Navy, hence the Pussers.
