I wasn't initially looking at a BMW either, to be honest. I was looking at getting another VTR originally, or the previous iteration of the Strom. My Dad recommended them to me and we found one at a dealership nearby, so I just went to take a test ride and get a rough idea.. Didn't expect to put the deposit down after getting back from the test ride though!

It's not mint condition, it's got a few chips and scratches and a few rusty nuts but it is a 10 year old bike with 29k on the clock. Hopefully I'll be able to replace bits and bring it up to an even better condition during my ownership though

Fuel tank is only 20 litres, it's not the adventure model. 200 miles on a tank is more than enough, I like taking a little walk every now and then.

If your were not expecting to be putting a deposit down after your test ride, that says it all, you must have really liked the bike You can't expect more than that after a test ride.

I'm sure you will be able to replace the few rusty nuts and bring it up to an even better condition during your ownership. A fuel tank with 20lts is still good
I know you didn't really want to part with your last bike, but I can't blame you for doing so with the extortionate insurance premium, I hope this bike is a lot better for you for insurance costs,

Bloody hell another BMW , must admit that's the last bike I thought you would get , forget taking it off road , they are a big heavy old bus , but you can throw them about on the road just try following Grumpyfrogs bro, if you think yours accelerates hard I'll let you on my k1300r with it's quickshifter that's entertaining , are you gonna show it off on the Yorkshire run?

Top tip Virt .

If you do decide to tell your insurance about the wheels, they'll not go near you. Also you'll have to get an engineers report to satisfy the specialist insurance who will take you on

I've done the 17" front conversion on the Varadero using a machined Blackbird front wheel & a rear CBR600 FY 5.5 rim wheel (180 tyre).

Now I also have superb tyre choice & handling, but I only use them for track days , as my insurance is not interested.

Yeah, well put. It's almost like a Storm in terms of behaviour, I think that's why I gelled with it.. It's just got a bit more torque

Yeah, shouldn't be too difficult to figure out how to use screwdrivers/allen keys/ratchet spanners again This is much more affordable to run, thankfully. Hoping to keep this one for a long time (I said that about the last two though!)

I love you too Fair enough, not everyone has to like it. Would be boring if everyone thought it was as beautiful if I did.. You're still going to have to put up with it being outside your house though

It's really not that heavy, as its' the 2006 model it's not water cooled which saves a surprising amount of weight. I think it weighs a similar amount to the VTR, but even pushing it around by hand on or off of the bike it carries no weight. Could probably pull this thing out of the garage with one hand if I wanted to..

Not going Yorkshire as I've got a tour in Germany at the end of May/beginning of June so my finances are tied up for that.. It will be coming Wales at the very least though. I'll pass on the thought of a k1300r, I like to ride bikes that aren't faster than my thought process

Possibly, I've forgotten the brand already and it's not stamped/marked anywhere. It began with a Z, think it was a Zion but it could be a Zard. It will be going at some point for something more ASBO-ey anyway

Well crap. I've posted on the ukgser forum that I'll probably try and get an original set of wheels to so I can take her off road (don't come cheap though!). Might have to bring it forward as to when I get them. Thanks for the info

It does look different at the front without the "beak" over the front wheel, but I like it. Only thing that I found on my Brothers, and it might just be down to the tyres he had on it, was that it didn't want to sit straight up, always had to be sitting on one butt cheek or the other.... could just have been the weight it was having to put up with.
As Ady said, don't even think about taking it off road, up a farm track is as far as I would go. and keep an eye on the seals on the shaft drive, yours must be due replacement about now, if not already done.

This was taken after I cleaned it earlier, but it had been ridden about 1-2 miles to reach the garage I store it in. Should've taken the photos before taking it over there, but meh. It still looks gorgeous!

It is different, it's a custom paint scheme as well I believe. It's clear that the person who owned this previously didn't want to even consider the thought of it ever meeting anything dirt-like. I've had no issues with it not sitting straight up except the little wobble I mentioned earlier when I'm booting it down a straight.
Farm track is still off road for me, the V strom wouldn't even really do that off road to be honest.
It's got a FSH so I'll check tonight and see if the seals have been done

Nice bike Virt my mate has had a couple of these and he loves them he used to scream around on a fire blade before but like you he had a test ride and has never wanted any other bike. Never ridden one myself but they have quite a following.
