the forums very quiet these days

Post by agentpineapple »

is it just me, or does the forum seem to be very quiet, i'm sure the time of year has a part to play, but there's been no new builds in the pimp your ride section, no new members saying hello for a while now, even a lot of the more senior members haven't posted at the same rate that they used to.
how ever the facebook pages and one in particular is very busy, over 1500 member from all over the world. lots of banter and interesting bikes.
don't get me wrong, for technical info and rideouts this forum has my vote, but for pictures, banter and new interesting ideas for our bikes, the facebook pages seem to be the place to be.
I know several of you will say, I don't do f/b blah blah blah, but it really does seem to having an effect on the forum. I won't name names, but there's plenty of forum members from here, that are busier members of the f/b pages now.
just a thought, but does this forum need a shake up......?

I'm a member of several online forums for various vehicles/activities and the same is true for those too.

Facebook groups are the death of these forums tbh :(

Speak up I can't hear you...

QUIET YOU SAY ?

Come Jan 1st FB will be introducing new t's & c's basically giving all your personally info to whoever wants it...FBI, CIA probably Mi5/6 & HM Tax Man.

I'll probably give it up then.

TBH whilst FB can be quite funny it is full of F/wits who ask the same Q's again & again in the same thread sometimes...Coz they cant be arsed to read the whole thread. Or the same thing gets posted again & again. Or the same thing gets posted again & again. Or the same thing gets posted again & again...Kin annoying ain't it...

Basically FB is geared toward phone use & not PC, the forum on the other hand doesn't work so well on a phone for ease of use.

I don't have a smart phone & I'll stick to the PC thanks...
Making up since 2007, sometimes it's true...Honest...

They have always done that. They also sell your info to advertising companies that then use the info and also sell your details/info on to other advertising agencies and so. The only thing that is coming, is a review of their terms and conditions to make it less complex (not that anyone reads small print) and make is clearer what they are doing with your personal details. Basically Facepoop is crap, poop is crap  It has always been a security threat via facepoops uses of your info and then hackers via apps, images etc plus the insecurity of facepoop and their security setup itself.

If you have a facepoop account and more so if your logged in,then happen to visit a website, 3rd party or otherwise, that includes a facepoop like/dislike buttons then that site is automatically noted by faceboop through their like/dislike widget as to the site you are on. This is then noted as part of your interests and ad's are more targeted towards what facepoop believe your interests to be. This is one example of how out info is used. There are many others.

Nothing is for free. How does one think facepoop make their money. Personally I think they should give members the option for a paid/subscribed service that disables all the ad's and tracking/monitoring devices to ones account. Obviously the goverment/courts etc should require a court order to access details, but I guess that don''t happen and there's not much we can do about that accept not use the service.

my point isn't about facebooks t&c's, you either use f/b or you don't, your choice, my point is that it does seem to be effecting the forum, i'm forever posting links to our forum on the f/b pages, and yes the f/b pages have there own issues, but recently there's been more interesting innovations via f/b than here.
maybe it's just down to volume of users, but I really wouldn't like our forum to become just a place for someone to pop into for mechanical advice and then never to be seen again, I know this happens of course, hence the questioning whether or not the forum needs a shake up and refresh.

You have to be in the know and care to be able to use the forum, otherwise you just become another sheep in the herd. Maybe we can find Lloydie there.

How do we shake up the site to make it more attractive? If folk are attracted to the FB format then the battle is lost right there. You acknowledge that the forum is better for technical information, but you don't get the instant validation of your meaningless existence!!!! Horses for courses and all that. I know where i'll be frequenting (other than the local public toilets!!!! Ahem).

I never said I had the answers guys......
as for innovations, there's some nice led lighting idea's and custom carbon fibre parts being made.
I think there's a little bit of tidying up still to do, remove some sticky threads that are really relevant anymore, also the moving of certain threads into there correct places.
i'll have a think over the weekend as to what might improve our forum.
yes the two platforms are different and so they'll always be different...

i'll start then
when i first found the site i had a very nice welcome in
when asking about certain items it was suggested to look in the workshop but i found it hard to find the info i wanted and even when it was found their were so many different views and from different threads
not to mention the fact that i didn't understand some of the info
on the bright side its great to know that help is at hand if you get in diffs

any hoo
i think it would be nice if the search for a item was simpler to find and all the info was in one place so as to make a decisions easier
at the same time if there was a mark say out of 10 as to what the other members think of said item/upgrade
i need to check but i think vtr in Australia has a list like this

next
told you not to but oh no you knew better

so leading on from that, in the workshop section maybe we could split it into different sections, for example....electrical, lighting, engine, suspension, brakes and so on.
