190 rear tyre
190 rear tyre
Has anyone used a 190 rear tyre on the firestorm, and how did it handle?
Current rear tyre isn't far off from being done for, and I can't afford a new Q2 to go on it. My dad still has a spare 190 Q2 from when he had his Mille (it was buy 1 front/1 rear, get 1 rear free and it's been sat in the garage for 2 months... and we no longer have the Mille ).. Any major issues that it would cause?
I'm guessing the wider tyre will be more stable at speed but harder to turn with? I'll only be using it for a couple of thousand miles until I return from a France trip in June, when I'll be sticking some harder tyres on the thing

Re: 190 rear tyre
There are a few that have done this. A good search on the forum will bring up some threads. I think your right with the slower turn in but more stable. Not sure if there is a real advantage to doing it but not ride the 180, proberly for a reason.
Re: 190 rear tyre
This is not something I would run but if you decide to try it out make sure you use a 190 tire that is designed to work on a 5.5" wheel.
If you try to run a tire that the manufacturer only recommends for a 6" wheel then you will squeeze the tire down and change the profile of the tire which can cause weird handling issues.

Hello darling! I'd stick it on eBay and use the cash to buy a new 180 rear... personally

Can you not get your hands on a part worn tyre?
Re: 190 rear tyre
My brother tried that before, we couldn't find anywhere that would do itCkennedy wrote:Can you not get your hands on a part worn tyre?

Re: 190 rear tyre
You need to check the Dulop sire to see if they recommend the tire for a 5.5" wheelVirt wrote:Just done a google. RSV Mille rear wheel is 6". Well wombles...

This is what you should be checking:
http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/tire-ca ... ortmax-q3/
and they say it will work on a 5.5" wheel even though a 6" wheel is recommended, so it should work ok for you

There is two places here in cov that will stick it on for you £5-10 I think

Re: 190 rear tyre
You can get a new Q2 rear for £105 on the bay.. I reckon you'd get £85 pretty quickly for your 190 section Q2 on the bay. Just sayin'

The normal guy we use in Rugby is a tenner, but he refuses to put anything on other than new tyres.. He balances them too.
I don't want to have to pay for a tyre I don't want to keep long Jamie, qualifiers are too soft for my riding Need something harder, don't want to pay money for a tyre that will only end up squared off.. Plus selling stuff on eBay is an experience I'd rather avoid going through again. Hated the damned thing, worse than Amazon.
