Head light relay kit

Post by Ckennedy »

I am looking into making a eastern beaver relay kit myself. But what parts do I require. I want to be able to go and buy the stuff tomorrow morning and get it made up and fitted tomorrow as I am rather impaitent like that

What I need is an exact parts list and the name of where I can get a ceramic bulb holder as I can not find a shop selling them so far. Any advice on parts or shops to get them from is appreciated.

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

I shall take this list to Maplins tomorrow and give it to them. See what the say. Had a look on there site for a bulb holder and didn't see one but knowing me I was looking in the wrong place

After a couple of trips in what was getting dark conditions it reminded me how naff the standard light was so want to get it sorted and I do not want to wait for one to come from America so I am doing it myself. Also gives that more "accomplished" feel :D

Halfords have the relays.....
Standard four pin ones work fine.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Forget the tape, use heat shrink instead... Preferably the hot glue type... Tape will only be useful to wrap around the wiring to make a harness...

We I might as well do the job properly. Rather know everything that it required before I go and by everything and then find out I needed something else

BTW why a 30A fuse?

V x A = W and at 14.5V, 30A would mean a 420W H4 bulb, which I find highly unlikely even exists...

A better choice would be to dimension the system for a maximum of a 120W bulb, since that's about what the headlight front glass can reliably survive (Don't ask me how I know that, lol) So, 100 / 14.5 = 8.2A, meaning a 7.5A or 10A fuse is a better choice... Using a 30A fuse, the bike will be on fire before the fuse blows, other than by a direct short to ground, so it becomes pretty useless really...

Well... I am... sort of... :) I try to avoid sparks though... Despite the fun, they tend to result in more fixing...
