Hi

My name's Dave. I live in Limousin, France, where I semi-retired 5 years ago. I'm an ex-racer from the Thames Valley but now I just take part in trackdays at circuits like Val De Vienne, Magny Cours and Le Mans. I haven't actually got a VTR at this moment (I have a TL1000S for the road - boo!), but I'm considering getting a Firestorm soon.

Best wishes, Dave

Welcome to the club Dave, you're not the only one on here without a Storm fella. This is the best place to come to get advice on the good and not so good aspects of the VTR. Hope you choose to join us

Hey shucks, what a nice welcome. Thanks everyone.

@AMCQ46 - you'd be really welcome over here for a track day. I'm at Val De Vienne tomorrow as it happens, which is my local circuit about 30 mins from home. It's a national level circuit, long and technical. We have a really good dedicated sports biker B and B / Bar up the road too:
http://www.motobreaks.com/
It's about 5 hours easy riding from the channel ports, and it costs 130 euros per day to use Val De Vienne.

@bigspanishmarty - good question. I import track bikes into France from the UK, but rarely road bikes. I re-registered my TL by buying a french frame with carte grise (french log book), then swapping them over. But the TL is well over the French 106bhp power limit! A Firestorm is just below that limit I think, so possibly easier to re-register the conventional route - but re-immatriculation is not an easy process. The power limit is being dropped in 2016, which will help us sports bikers. I use R1 / GSXR / ZX10R etc on track - with power around 150 at the rear wheel - all of which would have to be restricted heavily to comply with road-going legislation.

If you want to know more, maybe join this forum:

...which I play a small role in running.

Best wishes, Dave

thats a crazy law 106bhp, i'm surprised it came bout in the first place, the french are so passionate about things like this, at least its coming to an end.
when you think how expensive the ring costs now, the whole day at a french circut makes sense...
