Help! Starting to get rather annoyed now.

Post by Virt »

Bike is being dodgy again, currently stranded in Rugby waiting for someone in the family to call me back. Bike is making really dodgy noises while I'm riding it, mostly from the rear wheel area.
It's making some sort of throbbing/swinging sound and I don't know what it is. I think it's the chain being quite loose, though it shouldn't be as I have a Scott oiler fitted and it was fine for the 250 odd miles I did Sunday.. Either way I can't adjust it here and I don't feel safe riding something making such loud and worrying noises, any ideas I'm what it could be or how to solve it?:(

can you actually get hold of the wheel and wobble it? side to side or anything. could be a colapsed bearing?

sounds daft but have you checke tyre pressures? could be down a fair few PSI that would make it weave and mayby rub on the swingarm. just a thought.

Well it's on side stand and has no centre stand and I'm at a fuel station with no tools, so I can't really tell as it's always gonna be in contact with the ground :/

could be rear wheel bearings .
worn loose chain
flat tyre .

regardless of scotch oiler when was the last time you checked the tention on the chain . it shoild be 35mm up-down
and when was the last time the tyre pressers were checked ?

check to see if you can move the rear wheel side to side .

Chain has less than 700 miles, rear tyre is not flat and air pressure was last checked on Friday, rather shocking to find it at 20 psi rather than 42 when we did it  read wheel doesn't seem to wobble from just trying it, or rather it wobbles the whole bike and I can't get it off side stand to try it upright

put your hands on the wheel and see if it moves .
this can be done with it on its stand .

Doesn't budge, stays firm and just wobbles the entire bike instead

Brake pads have less than 1000 miles so I doubt it

is the tyre rubbing on the swing arm .
a good visual check of all parts on the rear should be done.
and give all the parts a wobble to see if any move when the shouldnt.

is the front sproket bolt tight. i had a noise that was driving me nuts on my old exup1000 and it was the nut loose with the sproket moving up and down the drive shaft causing a sawing rubbing sound. is there any lateral play in the chain at the front?

Tyre is clear of swing arm. Only thing loose is the plate on the back of the right swing arm in front of the bolts, no idea what that does? Can't check the front sprocket as I have no tools. Brother stole my under-seat toolkit and the seat keeps bending my keys, I only have my master key on me as I'm awaiting arrival of my new key at the key cutters
