Lightening flywheel - by how much?

Post by Rob »

Would like to either lighten my flywheel or buy another, lighten it then swap.

Anyone know how much is usually taken off? Either before/after diameter or weight?

This would be for road use only for a quicker respone without unduly affecting tickover - I don't want to go mad with it!

Thanks :D

I know, I'm watching it.

There is also a standard one for £26 delivered. I could probably buy that, pay to get it lightened and it still work out cheaper....

open to offers on the forum.......

Benny's specks are better as they show the maximum to can remove from it .
Then make your own choice on how much you want to remove .
But rob's is ready to go and its a lot less fouling around :-)

If you have a figure in mind PM me. Hopefully we can do a deal with p&p at cost on top

Many thanks for the drawing - if I decide to get one done myself that will be useful.

i have a lightened flywheel on my bike and theres no problem with tickover or uneven idling, what you do get is an engine that spins up the revs alot quicker than standard, some people like it some don't, if you could blag a ride on someones bike whose had it done, you could decide weither its to your liking. personally i think there isn't much in it, it probably makes the big a little bit harder to ride smoothly but the trade off is harder and faster acceleration. you pays your money and takes your chances.....

you will notice it if your bike was at full power .
It makes a big change to the way the engine spins up .
It revs up faster and so you go faster :-)

Thank you rob...

Just done a deal and I've bought his lightened flywheel

Fitting looks easy enough, famous last words...... Is it worth getting a new gasket for the cover or should the old one come off intact? If it does fall to bits is a bit of Hylomar gasket sealer ok? It's not like anything will leak out :?:

there is oil under there. get a new gasket.
you will also need a m22x1.5mm bolt to get the flywheel off.
search the forums you will find a few alternatives - there is no other way to remove the flywheel!!!!!!!
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
