Engine oil as chain lube?

Anyone else tried/use this?
for the last few weeks ive tried using it as i read somewhere that it was good, and its been excelent, stays on there really well, and is a load cheaper that regular lube, i think it gets less splatter than normal lube. I just apply it with an old paintbrush making sure the chain is well covered, leave it on there until im ready to next use the bike, and wipe off the excess.

All I ever use and have every used bar the odd bottle of chain wax I've got

I prefer engine oil applied with an old paint brush to wax any day

after I have cleaned the bike i clean the chain then with a rag and WD40 dry that off and apply engine oil with the brush to the inside of the chain and then lightly brush the outside of the chain

has worked fine for me for the last 30+ thousand miles, do the same on the blade as well

A little engine oil and used often goes a long way

Don't know if it supposed to be bad or good? but its cheap / simple and works well for me anyway

If wax flings its messy sh1t, if any oil flings upto the rear fairing it comes off easy when its washed / wiped

wow, i expected to get slated for doing this, i just find it so much more convenient, im using new oil at the moment as i have loads left over from when i had a car, fully synthetic high performance 10/40

Same, but I use a loobeman to feed it onto the rear sprocket when riding, and that puts it into the o-rings and rollers. Very impressed with how little throw off there is and I still havnt had to adjust the chain this summer!

Also I use the old oil after a service so it costs nothing

Loobman is a very cheap alternative to a scottoiler only you have to remember to press the button to dispense a shot of oil in the middle of a ride.

Engine oil is a great thing to use. After all it is the lubricant we trust to keep our engine and clutches working without a problem. I have used it on my chain before now and would recomend it any day. Bloke I work with has also used it for the past 30years and says his chain and sprockets have lasted longer as a result. There is no bad side to using engine oil on the chain, just be sure to not get it on your tyres

I'll fill my Scottoiler with some when I run out. Although I probably have about 5 years worth left!

I also use old engine oil to give it a good lube. I put it on with a cheap asda toothbrush. I usually buy a pack of these extra value toothbrushes as they are great for getting into all the nooks and crannies. I also have a scotoiler which I fill with good old two stroke oil and it works and flows brilliantly.

Either chain saw oil or a 90 grade oil

I believe the rearesets are Gilles. The dogs bollox painted Gold cause they cost as much.

yup Gilles.......they do them in balck an titiainium colour, but i got these 2nd hand off BSM so didnt get to choose.

they are bloody good kit, better for long legs and great adjustability plus precision bearing
