Balancing Carbs On VTR1000 - Idiots guide required!

Post by Ian E »

How easy is it to balance the carbs on a VTR1000? A mate has a Morgan carb tune kit I can borrow.

Are any special tools required?

Cheers,

Ian.

Ian,

Whats a Morgan carb tune kit, take it that's just a make of vacuum gauges?

First you need to see whether you have a front vacuum take off point or whether it still has the standard M5 allen bolt in it. Look at the rear cylinder from the left side of the bike, just below the intake rubber there will be a black hose, about 8mm diameter, that'll be the vacuum point that operates the fuel tap. Now look on the front cylinder in exactly the same point but rotate your mind through 180 degrees else your looking at the front echaust. You will probably see a small allen bolt, dooh, need to get a spigot to fit it, either buy the standard one aka rear cylinder or try scottoiler as they sell em seperately too. Once you have said take-off's you will need to connect on gauge to the front and t other to the rear but use a t-piece on the rear else you won't get any fuel, that's makes it difficult. To adjust carbs use a little screw drive and the adjusting screw is on the linkage on the left side of the carbs on the rear card accessed through the hole in the frame by the choke knob. Then piss about for ages, make sure you blip the throttle a good ten times as the screw tends to settle not where you set it.
