Your right not many bikes have a dipstick, only the one sitting on the seat in my case It would be a good idea though. Simple to do as well if the clutch basket wasn't in the way, but knowing Honda they would still require one to have the bike upright to measure instead of leaving it on the sidestand. Sort of defeats the object.

My 97 vfr750f v has a dipstick ( 2 actually!)....to use it the bike must be on it's centre stand on the level.

In the defence of Honda and other vehicle manufacturers including cars they tend to say fill it when vehicle is level...is a common datum.
A side stand capable dipstick wont account for the effects of road camber etc.

I prefer the little window to the level plug on my Suzuki GT250. PITA Ting.

Well mine uses little oil if nought... however I have now acquired 2 new skills which I combine
together to read the oil level window on the VTR.. these skills are for 1 person..without wheel garage steadying
accessories....

1st. skill balance motorcycle upright equal and steady on flat ground and hold right side with left hand/arm whilst
doing ...

2 .skill ... bend down forwards whilst delicately holding balanced motorcycle so that the oil window becomes
visible as your head lowers and the oil level becomes visible... make sure the level is between the two marks.. make sure bike does not
tip to the either side to ensure a reading ...... Honda you could have designed and made oil reading better ...

what a performance .. phew ..

if requires oil ... repeat skills 1 and 2 ..

. solution get a m8te to help you... hold the bike ..

That sounds familiar. I sit on the ground in front of the window, then holding the bike by it's frame. Left hand on frame or subframe near rear CCT and right hand on the thinner downward strut near the rad where fairing bolts on and gently pull the bike upright. Use the top of the tank as a guide for when the bike is upright. Lower bike gently back onto it sidestand to top up oil. Otherwise a helping hand makes it so much more easy.

1st gear to help it stop rolling , hold the front brake while on your knees on the right side of it lift the bike off the stand till it's upright and have a butchers in the sight glass . Easy

yep ive made one up.

i use castrol power1 and agree the price is to high
it does use about 1/4 of the eye glass if rode hard for about 200 miles
if normal riding about 500 miles
spoke to a bike mechanic once and he said these bikes don`t like semi or full sythetic oils
and i should try a minaral oil
would be intresting to get the reports back bigtwinthing
and i have a full belly pan on and checking is a right pain with help from my son and a torch
