Help, I'm stuck - manual CCT fitting problem

Yes it did. I knew the cams were in the wrong position, but wasn't sure how to solve the problem - a bit scared of breaking something.

Great advice from Tony.Mon and everyone else, although I ended up just removing one of the gears rather than taking the cam caps off. With the cams in the right place there was plenty of slack to allow me to get the FE and FI marks in the right place. The FE mark looks about half a tooth out, but the cams look fine.

Good to hear you're sorted- well done.

The reason I generally recommend taking the caps off instead of undoing the chainwheel bolts is that you stand a chance of turning the crank while undoing the chainwheel bolts and disturbing the timing setup.
One less thing to go wrong....

The cams look more like it to me in the photo's
I wouldn't stress yourself about the timing being half a tooth out. Just make sure it all turns over freely by hand first before firing her up, which you've probably done by now
