Tyres

Post by warby221 »

Well had to get new boots for the viffer
It’s got an Avon ST46 on the back
Anyway gets a call from the place were I get my tyres
“Sorry but they’ve stopped making the ST46 in that size you’ll have to give us a bit of time to track one down” they came good but the cost went up as there having to buy in from another company that had it in stock and add there mark-up on it

So after your recommendations for mail order places for tyres or addresses for tyre places that have a good stock of tyres in within easy travailing distance of Blackburn as I can see getting these tyres is going to become harder the size of the tyre is 140/80-17 so it’s a bit of an odd size

They've stopped making the ST45/46 period.

The new tyres are called the Avon Storm and I have one on the rear (still the AV45 on the front). I've run these for 8 years now and think they are great.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

It’s the size that’s the problem 140/80 no bugger makes them in that size in Z rated radials just cross-ply’s now
It’s a pity as they suit the viffer down to the ground with good mileage hence looking to squirrel a couple away for later on

I assume thats one of the older vfr's then?

Surely they had crossplies as standard, well the ones I went to see when I was vfr hunting did have, in which case I can recommend the Dunlop GT501's as I fitted one to my Cbr600 I just got rid of.

That had the ST46 on it and tbh I thought it was crap, all squared off to hell and horrible in the wet, did have a crossply on the front mind so maybe that was why.

Well, it would be crap if it was worn out, wouldn't it!

Warby,

MandP are listing them (140/80ZR17) at the moment in the options bar drop down menu, at £76.99 don't know how that compares with your quote :-

Thats the problem, it was not actually worn out, still had plenty of life in it when I changed it.
