I remember MCN about 7 years ago pricing up the cost of building an ZX-6 from parts

New bike £6,700
Parts total £37,000

There ought to be a law FFS
I mean they've brought one in to stop mobile phone companies charging over the odds for making calls abroad, yet this has been going on for years :x

Lotus,
Glad to hear you came out ok with the deal
Tempted to buy the bike back?
Those crash bungs have done a brilliant job considering it hit a kerb as well
I've got an inferiority complex
But its not a very good one!

This months RiDE mag got repair quotes on the MV F41000 they dropped in a garage.

Repair quote, 2 grand odd. Cost to fix 800 quid.

It's cos insurers know bugger all about bikes and repair places just go "oooh, 1cm scratch on the frame that would polish out with Autoglym... nah, that needs a whole new frame that does."

I'm confident I could fix that up from your pics for under a grand.

Kitch.
With second hand bits yeah. I can't get over that poxy belly pan (oil filter cover more like) @ 117.50 + vat. The one that got damaged was one I bought for 5.50 off of eBay so ya know what I mean too.

I'm not allowed to buy the bike back. Has to go to an approved breaker. B0ll0x ain't it!!!

Kitch - Your right it was RiDE not TWO - The point remains though....Parts = Rip Off

LSM - Going to have to chalk it down to experience - But at least you have enough cash to buy another....Are you ready to get back in the saddle yet ?

Getting better (or worse depending on your point of view).
Like the idea of another yellow 'Storm, but fancy a Triumph triple too like an RS/ST etc.
Why? Better bl%dy range. I find that it is a real damn nuisance on a bike that is supposed to be a sports-tourer but has less range than a Sinclair C5!!!!!!

Someone though is gonna get a peach of an engine as it is running A1 +.
Brand new BT014 on the rear (was 24 hours old and had done 160 miles at the time of the accident) and new taper roller ghead bearings of the same 'mega' distance too.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

When mine was written off last year they was very funny when I asked about buying it back. The but back price was going to be base on 2/3 of the write off value.

The reason the insurers won't tell you which breaker is because they have a % deal with the breakers yards. They pay a certain pre agreed % of the value of the bike regardless of the state of the write off.

Also cat "D" or cat "C" write offs are the only ones that are aloud to be put back on the road

If you don't or forget to give in your imobiliser fob to your insurer the breakers yard will soon contact you because the bike is wirth more to them with all the keys and fobs.
