170 rear tyre ??

Post by stormcloud »

:?: Has anyone tried a 170 section rear tyre. :? I was wondering if it would lighten the steering or make it more neutral.
I have read many examples where doing this on some bikes (with 190 or 180 section tyres) has made their handling even better with no noticable change in grip.
This is because of the front and rear tyre being closer in width and reducing the effect of the big rear tyre on the cornering dynamics.

I'm interested to hear anybody's experience or even just thoughts on the matter.

I think that a 170/ rear could be too narrow for the rim. If you want to quicken the steering by working on the tyres, I suggest you try Dunlops as they usually have a mroe triangular profile.

If that's not enough, you can put a spacer under the rear shock mounting and/or drop the yokes by 5mm.
