Advice on where to buy CCTs, PAIR delete kit and intake rubbers?
Advice on where to buy CCTs, PAIR delete kit and intake rubbers?
Hi,
It's time to pull my finger out and do the work on the bike I promised my self to do as I put it away for winter
1) Cam chain tensioners. I was going to do the "stopper mod" described elsewhere on the forum but I'm beginning to lean toward manual CCTs as it seems like less of a faff.
2) As I'll be tearing things apart anyway I might as well delete the PAIR system at the same time. Could I just put a couple of rubber bungs on the existing PAIR valve plates and on the air box? And what about the reed valves that sit underneath? Someone described in another thread they flipped them upside down to retain the seal that they provided. Is there some functional point to flipping them meaning I would have to do the same if I keep the existing covers (provided it is OK to plug the holes in them)?
3) Find the vacuum leak that seems to be there. I will order some new intake rubbers as the bike is twenty years and the existing ones will be hard and possibly cracked. I only recently bought the bike and haven't even had the airbox off yet but those seem to be the most likely culprit. And if it's a cracked hose I can quickly source that locally.
4) After doing the CCTs I probably need new covers over the timing marks as I need to get them off and they are supposedly made from cheese. BTW what's the best way to take them off with as little damage as possible, carefully by hand or with an impact driver?
Any recommendations on where to buy each of these items?
I noticed there was a link for a nice looking PAIR delete kit but the seller didn't ship to Sweden where I am located.
Manual CCTs seem to be 13 on a dozen looking at ebay, most of them from China which I'm reluctant to buy from.
Any pointers to where and what would be greatly appreciated. Preferably within the EU. The UK is absolutely no problem but I'd like to avoid being slapped with import tax if I can.
Cheers,
Anders

APE or Krigger for CCT's Look them up on google both US company's but have EU suppliers.
eBay item number:166992479917 is another option but note add is for one only, believe these are a German maker.
The inspection cover for the timing marks... the small one is normally ok to get off the bigger one not so. Give it a good soak with a decent penetrant fluid. Like Plus Gas, don't bother with WD-40. Use a decent allen key that's a nice snug fit. Sounds wrong but give it a nip up tighter, this helps break any bond then go for the undo...The more leverage the better. If it starts to rip up & not undo... Try some heat & hammer in a TORX bit & try again. If that fails then it's a cold chisel & a hammer... A company called Rugged Roads do one with a hex head rather than the allen socket. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171726640942
Re PAIRS delete... Yes valves can be flipped over & all the corresponding tubes can be plugged up, the cam covers, airbox & don't forget the the small hose off the carbs.
The alternative & it's what I did is find. Fit any pre PAIRS, cam covers & an airbox. ( you can get away with just the lower section.) Just leaves the tube on the carbs to block off.

Re: Advice on where to buy CCTs, PAIR delete kit and intake rubbers?
Thank you! Lots of good information there.
The hex head inspection cover looks like a good idea to avoid any future problems. I don't see why they would use an Allen head for that one other than it looks prettier. Will definitely order one of those.
Found a Swedish supplier for APE CCTs but the prices are outrageous (welcome to Sweden) so will probably order the one from ebay.
One thing though, and bear in mind I don't really understand the workings of the PAIR system, what would happen if I just plugged the covers and didn't flip the reed valves over?
Cheers,
Anders

Not sure TBH, but expect poss rough running & or loads of backfire on the overrun...Air leak.

Sounds like it may be worth some extra minutes to flip them over then.
Thanks,

Yeah, I think the ones on eBay are bought from Ali Express and then marking them up and moving them on.
If I remember they took about 10 days from China.
I did swap the locking nut for a 12mm nyloc and put some 'O' ring lube on the shaft.
I thought for £15 I would take a chance and when they arrived I was very pleased.
Dave.

More likely the ones from Ali Express are cheap copies made by kids in a factory in deepest China.Lancer wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 4:46 pm Yeah, I think the ones on eBay are bought from Ali Express and then marking them up and moving them on.

The originals are a company called Higgins in Germany IIRC.

Does that matter (aside from the moral child labour implications) but quality wise some people are running around with tensioners like this without any issues.
