Facebook Scammers

Post by acrmnsm »

OMG the place has gone wild with it, I am on a few different groups, and they are packed with people pretending to be breakers parts suppliers or just other users.
Most of them easy to spot these are the methods I have seen so far:
1) Only want to deal via DM's , will turn off commenting.
2) Always ask for your location first so they can say they are in Scotland, or whichever is the opposite end of where you live and have to ship.
3) Post pictures of parts they have copied form previous forum adverts.
4) Normally have ridiculous profiles eg this guy is trying to scam me right now https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61552702194899, his pictures are only liked by him...
5) Will not give a phone number so you can have an actual conversation with the person you want to send money to.

So my tips are:
a) If you can reply ask them to keep it on the FB page rather than DMs, they don't like transparency.
b) Ask for their location first, even if they say Scotland offer to collect (if it turns out they are not a scammer, you can just apologise and say plans changed can we sort postage), they will never provide a proper address or any contact details.
c) Ask for better pics and verification pics ie can I see the pother side of that genuine screen and will you write my user name on a piece of paper beside it?
d) Obvs ask for phone number and name and address. Legit sellers and buyers want to talk.

What other scam busting tips do you guys have?

Only use the pages that moderate fully. if there are loads of scammers on a page it's not moderated very well avoid.

I'm on 2 VTR pages one is shi t hot for blocking scammers the other one not so ...
