Hello! I've bought stolen VTR1000F
Hello! I've bought stolen VTR1000F
It was Christmas ans I'd been drinking and quitr late when I bought this on ebay from aninsurance recovery specialist.
I am just working through the smashed lockset before working out how to remove the Datatool alarm.
My current goal is to get it running!
This is my first VTR1000 and I am quite looking forward to it!

Re: Hello! I've bought stolen VTR1000F
Welcome. Easiest way to get the alarm off is.... Replace the loom, been there done that, plenty of used looms on ebay, just study the pics carefully & try to get one with the least amount of replacement shite blue/red crimp conectors on it...
Yes it means a lot of stripping down to remove & re fit but gives you a good reason to get to know the bike inside & out, cleaning all the hard to get to places & fix anything that need attention. Good luck & happy Storming.
Let us know whereabouts you are someone local might be able to help you out.

If you don't want to replace the complete loom, the alarm can be removed quite easily.
Find the main alarm unit, and then cut each alarm wire one by one close to the unit. All the wires will probably be black.
If it starts squawking, keep going and then once free, put the alarm unit on the ground and smash it to death with a lump hammer
Now trace every black wire that you have cut from the alarm back to the bike loom, carefully stripping back loom insulation where needed.
Most of these wires will be just connected (spliced) to existing wires in the loom for alarm power, ground, indicators etc. Some will go to an alarm tilt switch and an alarm LED.
All these can be snipped away from the existing bike wiring, then use insulation tape to protect the exposed parts of the bike wiring.
There will be a pair of alarm wires which imobilise the bike ignition. These are normally near the ECU. Again snip them off, but this time you need to re-join the existing bike wire which was cut when the alarm was originally installed. I always resolder the original bike wires together and use heatshrink sleeving on top, then insulating tape to give final protection.
There may be another pair of wires from the alarm imobilising the power to the ignition or starter, usually near the main 30A fuse and starter relay.
Cut these alarm wires off as well, and re-join the existing bike wires as you did for the previous pair.
Tidy everything up with insulation tape and cable ties......job done.
Here's the monstrosity I removed from my VTR!

Sod all that, buy the time you've faffed around with all that clipping, soldering & re wraping I'd have swapped the loom over & been out on a test ride !
