What to Look for in the Best Mops for Laminate Floors?

Laminate floors are cheaper and more durable than hardwood floors. But unfortunately, they aren’t indestructible. It is still considered a sensitive floor type, requiring you to have proper cleaning technique and, most importantly, the right cleaning tool.

If you’re on the market for a good mop for laminate floors, this guide from our writer Joseph French can help! Here is what you should look for in the best mops for Laminate floors

The Type of Mopping Head

A mop can have several different kinds of mop heads. Each has its use, but not every will work on laminate floors. You will want something absorbent as well as soft. If the mopping head doesn’t sweep up enough water, your laminate floors will be vulnerable to water damage. And if the mopping head is too rough or abrasive, scratches and dents will form on the floor’s surface.

Microfiber is the best overall choice. It is cheap, highly absorbent, and non-abrasive. Most of the best mops for laminate floors come with microfiber mopping pads.

An alternative is chenille. It is as soft as microfiber and just as cheap. But its thick fibers are far better at scrubbing out stains and sweeping debris than plain microfiber pads.

Weight

The weight of the mop is another important factor. The heavier it is, the faster you’re going to get tired. So, always pick the lightest mop that’s available to you. Additionally, if you have medical conditions that make handling heavy objects painful or unhealthy such as arthritis, this is even more important.

But the weight doesn’t just include the mop itself. If you buy a mop set (with a water bucket included), also consider the water-filled bucket's weight. It could get significantly heavier.

If you don’t want to drag around a heavy bucket, spray mops could be your best choice. They have a small water tank integrated right into the mop. The capacity isn’t as high, but it’s significantly lighter and easier to use than a full set.

Ease of Use

When you pick up the mop, it should feel like an extension of your arm. The best mops on the market have an ergonomic, molded grip that fits into the palm of your hand. Since they are more comfortable to use, you can clean for longer periods before fatigue sets in.

Besides the grip, the weight balancing of the mop has to be good. The center of gravity of the mop should be exactly at the center. That way, it won’t lean too much, either forward or backward, forcing you to compensate with your arm’s muscle. Unbalanced mops can become very tiring to use after a while for this reason.

Unfortunately, it’s hard to tell how easy it is to use a mop until it arrives at your front door. But you can glean the basics by reading reviews left by other customers or professional reviews from sites like TheKingLive!

Extra Features

The last thing to consider is what kind of extra features or accessories the mop comes with. Most mops will give you extra cleaning pads or cleaning heads. Some will give you a complimentary bottle of floor cleaner. Check the product’s description to see what each model comes with before you buy.

And also, while you’re at it, check whether replacement cleaning pads or heads are easily available and affordable.

Conclusion

Buying a good mop for your new laminate floors is easier than it sounded. Now that you know what to look for, head out there and begin your search!
