What happens if you step on the back brake and lock the wheel up? Does the ABS kick in? It could be a fault with the display light circuit

well that was my first thought, i came along the road, into a long layby, jabbed the back brake and it would not lock up. I tried it on a wet road and it still didn't lock up. Gravel will be the next test. Its bloody weird i can tell you.
missing the noise, not the vibes. However never say never!

Bit like my back brake now, bit spongey but a bloody lifesaver.
I know what you mean, never did get used to the linked brakes on the old viffer.

Sounds like it's working then. Time to get the circuit diagram and do some fault finding me thinks. Like Poppers mentioned before, it could be a break/short in the loom somewhere or maybe some corrosion across a plug contact.
Do you feel brave enough to lock the front up on that gravel test? See if the front is working too? :eek2

Well apart from no bins, patio weeds, missing calipers, pinky tinged cans glistening in the sunlight and the well hung hoses... leaving one other obvious shameful thing wrong

Nasty aluminium corrosion and a chicken strip so wide that it is not visible at all?

Packet of Jammy Dodgers to Mac! Got it back home and began fiddling with brakes when I noticed I'd ridden the bike backwards after tyre fitting or sumfink

The wheel has a cable speedo fitted on one side - so it'll need to go back for refitting. Only when I get the new braided lines replaced as the ones Hel sent in the Xmas advent bonanza are each about 30cm too long!

Hello Wicky, try this on...
Having to pay a tenner to replace a regulation plate with 'raised lettering' to get an MOT!
And having to change the bulb that popped on the way over there.
Starts with a R. Rrrrrrrr. Motorbike!
