Y124p yellow paint
Y124p yellow paint
I've got a 97 y124p yellow storm that managed to drop over on my drive at 0 mph
This made the right hand side fairing crack that was already there, way worse.
I fixed it with a Dremel and Q bond (excellent stuff).
Rubbed down got it all looking good.
Went to local paint distributors and they had y124p on their computer and made me up a can along with grey primer which is what the computer said (I thought it was supposed to be white ).
Anyway put 3 costs of primer on then 3 costs of yellow and the colour is way too orange, not close really.
I had read all posts on matching up yellow and know it's very difficult, but I thought it would be close enough, but it's not.
Any ideas where I go from here without having to get the lot sprayed as every other painted part looks very good .
Did they just mix it wrong and I should try again?
I read the Halfords Ducati yellow is an excellent match but tried that yesterday and there are 6 yellows and the ones that looked closest on the computer was nowhere near when he made a samples up.
Thanks for any info

Re: Y124p yellow paint
I've never been able to get the colour to match. Neither did Dream Machine when they did the belly pan years ago - it was close in daylight but different in changing light conditions.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

Re: Y124p yellow paint
is the paint a 2 or 3 stage paint? I'm guessing if you need grey primer then it is a 3 stage basecoat, midcoat then lacquer
If it aint broke, get your bloody hands off it!

Fabio that's what I was thinking the pearl was the second yellow to come out on the storm 2000 plus I think? the original yellow was not a pearl.

According to this both are a pearl yellow, but the later one is a bit different...VTR Phoenix wrote:Fabio that's what I was thinking the pearl was the second yellow to come out on the storm 2000 plus I think? the original yellow was not a pearl.

If you don't try you never know if you can do it.
Re: Y124p yellow paint
Me thinks
Early one y124p - pearl shining yellow
Late one y163p - pearl flash yellow

Correct yes.VTR Phoenix wrote:That code is the pearl yellow? Basecoat, midcoat pearl then lacquer
Very close is ok with, but it's too orange.
And that's supposed to be the correct primer, pearl and lacquer according to their computer.

Yes it's the code that's under the seat, y124p
Re: Y124p yellow paint
when i checked my code it turned out wrong because the bodywork had been changed in the past..is yours the paler yellow or the darker earlier colour?
the older i get,the faster i was
Re: Y124p yellow paint
That's the thing wether it's been painted before or not, I'd say no as there seems no overspray on the inside of the panels but I'm not 100 percent sure.fabiostar wrote:when i checked my code it turned out wrong because the bodywork had been changed in the past..is yours the paler yellow or the darker earlier colour?
It's the darker earlier colour yellow on mine.

Re: Y124p yellow paint
Do you not have a local mixing place that could colour match?
Bear in mind though that with age, bleaching and weather conditions the colour over 18 years will have changed significantly and you will never get a close match but a "that will do" match.
