Pics please, I can't recall ever seeing these.
The cam cover is located on the machined flat head mating surface with only the large rubber seal with four half moon sections moulded into it.
It's possible to have one of those misaligned, oil will leak out if so, but there's no dowel or O ring, iirc.
Dont forget the washers!!

I've worked on loads of those and never noticed the difference....
I suppose if the dowel and o ring stays where it is there's no need to do anything about it, especially if it stays with the cam cover on disassembly.
