G'day from a new member
Hi all!
One very happy new firestorm owner from Tasmania, Australia here. I'm a hands on type of dude, so finding good forums for my various interests is a priority when I get a new toy...so after searching around here I am!
Everyone here seems super cool and there is a clear answer for everything. Are there any other members from Oz?
I got my 97 VTR1000F last weekend. She is in very nice original condition with 50,000 Klms and runs Remus Carbon Cans (I am fairly sure they are just slip-ons and not a full system. Picked her up for $3kAUS which was a bargain! The previous owner removed the air box snorkel and apparently tuned it to suit, It runs super nice once warmed up. Has brand new Pilot Road 2's, Its been very well cared for and I will continue to spoil her! It also has a Chinese led taillight which I'm not a fan of, The original I have in a box so it will be reinstalled soon. Fairly certain that the fork has had some work as the compression damping feels quite firm and race-like and has Racetech stickers on the legs. I was expecting it to be divey, but that is not how I would describe it all.
My last bike was a Big Bore Stroker DRZ400e, and most of my riding history is off road. I have limited riding on sports bikes so am still getting the feel for road riding. One thing I was certain of before the purchase was that I wanted that big twin grunt! (and sound) One thing I have learnt so far is to hold on before you give the throttle a serious twist. Riding the low down torque through sweepers is very addictive too!
Things to do Include:
Manual CCT's
Replacement RR
Fixing the fuel light (already ran out of fuel once!)
The next track day to work on my riding (and to give her a proper handful!)
Cleaning and detailing various areas because fussy
Post 2001 or aftermarket bars as I'm tall.
Renthal Grips
Bellypan
Double bubble screen
Cheers!

Hello and welcome ,
Just don't give it full throttle in first gear or you'll be on your butt .
They are great bikes with a fantastic sound ,
Even the red ones shift a bit too

Welcome aboard Rick
A very tidy looking bike you have there, and very good choice of colour
The gold colour wheels work well with the red paint work IMHO,
Chris.

Greetings Ricky er... Ponting?
You should be able to get Krieger Manual Tensioners as someone down under imports them from Mark in Ohio USA - forget their name
You might want to check the airbox mods as the VTR usually falls flat on its face with cackhanded mods in the intake dept.
And as its early model VTR check that the R/R has been upgraded before it bites you in the elbow.

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Re: G'day from a new member
Thank you everyone for the welcome
Hopefully I have some Mcct's in the post my the end of the week.
I will take some photos of the air box and removed snout and start a thread to seek some advice on what to do there.
although I think it runs pretty sweet.
Also how would I go about checking that the R/R has been upgraded?
Cheers
Seeing as its a UK forum I will restrain from commenting on anything cricket related at this timeWicky wrote:Greetings Ricky er... Ponting?

Been down your way a few times, best roads in Oz are in Tassie.
And considering you are also into Fishing, Dirtbike's and 4WD's, you are obviously one of our countries better men ;)
To add, i'm 6'2" and 105Kg without gear.
I didn't find i had to change the bars, its just a matter of getting used to the Road Bike after being on the Dirt Bike.
Once you get over the initial learning curve of shuffling a 200Kg bike around, it will all fall into place and feel normal and comfortable.
Sounds like your forks have been done, which is great, as i found it the first point of weakness on my bike, especially at my weight.
