As some of the fellow cyclists on here are not on Facebook, I thought I'd give an update on the past few weeks events.
So I have been working really hard on the cycling this year. I've cycled over 2000 miles which is more than any previous year and I've been working towards doing a number of events including the Ride 100 London and the 75 mile off-road ride from London to Brighton (L2B)
As some of you may remember, I didn't manage to complete L2B last year as I was knocked out by pneumonia. I was well pissed off.
On Sunday 6th Sept, I set off to play in the local annual volleyball tournament, another event I love to take part in and missed last year due to Pneumonia. Started off the first game. Got thrashed in the first set. We just started the second set and boom! I dislocate my knee!!

"Oh ffs" I thought whilst laying on the floor waiting for the ambulance to show up. . "I'm going to miss L2B"..... "oh sh1t, it's Op Storm next week and I'll miss that too!! Ahhhhh!!!!!!
The ambulance turned up and whilst the paramedics were transferring me to the trolley, my knee popped in. Along with the gas and air, which was awesome

, there was instant relief. 20 minutes later, I was up walking around again. It was very sore and I needed a mate to drive my car home for me. I dislocated it before and it had to be strapped up for 6 weeks followed by a few months of physio.
I went to see a sports injury specialist and had two sessions of dry needling (acupuncture of sorts), ultra-sound, massage and taping up. 6 days later I spent two days cycling up mountains in Wales.
I had another two sessions with the specialist and the Sunday just gone (20th) I completed a 43 mile ride around the New Forest and came 19th out of 334 riders. That was 2 hours 27 minutes non-stop with a 17.6 mph average. Well happy with that!!!
I am amazed at the resilience of the human body and that with the right treatment, how quickly you can bounce back.
This Saturday (26th) I will be taking part in the L2B!! Wish me luck
