How to make your bike feel new again

Post by tony.mon »

1. Ride it through winter, doing no maintenance except bolting on bits that drop off, like chain, for instance.
2. Never clean it for three months.
3. Find a nice sunny day, go for a rideout with some mates, and at the meeting place decide you ought to check your tyre pressures.
4. Find that the front is at 26psi, and the rear is at 24.
5. set tyre pressures as tyre manufacturers intended

Hey presto- feels like a new bike!

Note to self: remember this next winter......

thought I had the same problem
went 200yds from house ,give it a little blap and the bike skwermed up the road
remembered I had not checked the tyre pressures
turned round checked and all was ok
then realised how much torque I had under me and remembered I had a rear metzeler that needed warming up

You say ''pneumatics'' I say a lazy fek who doesn't bother checking his tyre pressures on a regular basis...

A couple of years ago I only had the Norton as my daily rider. The shop guys were not too keen on me riding that "old stuff" on store sponsored group rides (fear of break downs I guess) and so I was offered one of the demo bikes. That was fine with me because the demo I got was one of the first VFR1200s. I was really excited to ride it but found it to be somewhat of a pig. Slow speed handling was soft and it never really felt planted. When we got back t the shop I check the tire pressure (in hind sight I should have check them before we left) and both tires were showing 22psi. I aired them up and the change was immediate, even in the parking lot.

Shame on your Mr Mon for not checking your tyre pressures before leaving home  :)

Makes me feel not so guilty now...although a quick clean also helped ease the guilt, especially of the not so old chain!
