Inverness to Belgium

Post by Beleif »

Hello,

who's got any advice or opinion on my trip to Belgium from Inverness?

Plan A is to go via Hull (420 miles) to Zeebrugge ferry. My destination is Ypres and must return by Calais - Dover to go to Tamworth on way back.

But I've just been reading reviews of the ferry and it made me think I should consider the alternative of going Inverness - Dover (650 miles) for the outward crossing.

Ferry cost is £150 from Hull.

Cheers

I'd go via Calais/Folkestone. More choice and a long ferry crossing is boring - at least you are riding the extra from Hull to Kent although it's a helluva way from Inverness! I assume you are going to The Menin Gate? Very moving - been a few times.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

A couple of years ago, the wife and I took the Boxster to Amsterdam from Newcastle (We live in the Scottish Borders 2hrs away). It sails at about 5pm and gets in about 7am and you can get a wee bunk room. We really enjoyed it as you are sailing when you're asleep and you get to wake up in main land Europe in the morning.Brilliant.
We camped at a great site just on the edge of town the first night (no weed allowed :( ). You can drive to Belgium in a couple of hours from there I think, we stayed in Brugge for a night before heading back to the tunnel and drove back up through England stopping at friends on the way up. I think we were away for 4 nights in all.
