Fuel pipes question...

Post by cliveyandrews »

We're going to sell Pauline's bike very soon - but we're still plagued by this annoying stutter about 2,500 revs when rolling back on after full throttle. We've had the carbs stripped and checked twice, it's now got known good coils (from my Storm!) and new plugs. Feels like it's momentarily fuel starved. I'm gonna try my tank (I.e. Fuel tap) at weekend, but I'm thinking I might as well replace hoses while it's off.

Can anyone tell me the specs for fuel and vacuum hoses etc...?

....or I can sell "as-is" for £1,400. Orange, 17,000 miles, manual CCTs, replaced reg rec. Hugger, double bubble & undertray....?

Fiche here > http://www.ronayers.com/FUEL-TANK-C212277.aspx

ID for fuel hose is 10mm and vacuum 5mm, and 8mm for others

What air filter are you running ?? If not a standard filter, try one before doing loads of other work, might save you some grief.

It's a K&N, but I'm sure its jetted - the bike's been fine for 2 years before - it only surfaced after we had a mechanic replace the CCT's. He's been given the bike back to double check hoses - which I have done twice. I've rerouted the breathers too.

Victim of PVLIR? :?: Have you checked that the vacuum hose from front cylinder is attached to the correct nipple in the fuel petcock?

Someone else may know better, but my bike wouldn't have been rideable with the vac hose in the wrong place so I doubt its that.

Timing out is my bet though, possibly jumped a tooth. Get your mechanic to check it. I may be wrong though.

That was my first thought as it only started after the tensioners where done. As soon as any head work has been done, valve adjustment or timing adjustment it will affect the state of tune in the carbs.

When you say stutter do you mean the revs stumble, drop lower and rise back up. Rather than stripping it down and messing with timing, maybe 1/4 -1/2 turn in or out on the mixture screws will sort it out. Or throw a standard filter in and see how it behaves.

I highly doubt it's the vacuum as it would be popping and banging all over the place if it was.

It feels like it's running out of fuel. A hesitation, it feels like it drops onto one, but ride through it, 3.5-4,000 revs it lifts it skirts and flies....

You could try pulling the choke (enricher) out a smidge to richen and see if this improves things. If so, then there's a bit of a lean stumble. Turn the mixture screws out 1/4 turn.

Hmm, has anyone got a stock air filter lying around I could try. Loathed to spend £20 just to eliminate that.
