Post by delmeekc »

Wayne,

nice brakes mate (should be on one of my bikes), but wot you got some dodgy import VTR from the states or somit with emission control. Noticed that take-off on the front rocker cover, wot's it putting out about 80 rwhp then, won't need them brakes ehh!

Iceland Special, Neil's check and JC loft.

Post by delmeekc »

Wayne,

on the rocket cover (dark grey piece on the top of the cylinder) , cylinder (that'll be the big lump of allay that sticks out of the front of the engine, one at the rear too). Anyway all the UK VTR's and European imports I've see/had have it blanked off but on yours it has an alloy cover and then a hose coming out of it. I think (I'll check tomorrow at home, or maybe someone with access to a workshop manual can check too) the take the hot air backin the air box or somit, maybe it's from iceland and it's to work the intake air. I dunno mate. I'll check.

Neil, ya cheeky git, I got woke up to do this!

BTW, wot sort of stuff ya want as I have a well stocked loft, JC is probably full of inflatable sheep or somit dodgy like that, (Sorry JC it's out now).

Why not get in touch with Revolution Rodger on the e-mail list. He seems pretty clued up on the differences between the regional models and my be able to identify it.

I know for a fact that mine has blanking plates on each of the rocker covers and is a 97 UK model. I've not noticed the breather tubes on any other UK models either.

Wayne

Best way to find out for sure is by checking the carb bracket as follows:
Some Parallel Imports especially ones destined for Germany and
Switzerland only make 96-98 @ r/w This can easily be got around by
carburation changes and by removing the restricter in the Carb mounting
rubbers. To tell if you are blessed with one of these models there is a
small sticker on the carb linking gantry. If it is Genuine UK model this
sticker is Green and White Checks, Solid green for Germany and Holland,
Solid blue for Switzerland. The Blue is the hardest to improve but it can be
done.
Some UK Trading Companies sold the unsuspecting customers
"Genuine UK Spec" Bikes. These bikes have lower power output especially at
the top end. These models were originally destined for the Singapore and Hong
Kong markets and therefor were in MPH and L/Hand drive mode. Unfortunately,
because the ambient average temp out there is 26 degrees C a modified
temperature sensor was fitted. This effects the advance and retard of the
ignition. The importers were either unaware of this or did not care. The
fitting of a UK sensor block will re-establish the power.
Del described the item in the manual earlier today and it sounded distinctly like the PAIR system originally designed for the US market which injects cool air to the exhaust port after combustion, to aid the combustion of any remaining fuel/air and lower emissions. I seem to remember those models also had some sort of gadget on the spark/ignition tract too which may also be worth having a look for. The good news is that both these additions can be removed, as most of the americans did these mods within about 24 hours of the bike being delivered. :biggrin

Look sidewards at the bike, through the frame spars. In the 'V' between the cylinders you'll see the carbs and associated gubbins, and there should be a bracket (I seem to remember it being chromed) linking the carbs together.

Use a torch and you should be able to see it all.
