Uprated battery?

Post by TUG »

Ok guys long time no post,
I have been a little rebel on my Storm, my front tyre has done 1000miles less than my rear...
Anyway heres my problem, i broke down in southport the other night, the bike gave the impression that the battery was flat,
I charged it overnight and its still dead so i need to run tests on the charging system and the REG/REC but i need a good battery.

I wanted to fit something a bit more heavy duty while i'm at it, what would you reccomend, keep stock or uprate?

I wouldn't recommend fitting an expensive new battery before you find out what caused it.
If your reg/rec is gone, it may well fry the new one too.

Get the 14 AH not the 12AH standard one.
It makes cold starting much better, and lasts well between uses of the bike.
My old 12 would struggle if I didn't use the bike for ten days or more, the new one's good for 2 weeks no trouble.

It's just slightly taller, and you will find that you have to cut off the plastic flap that sits over the old one, but that's no problem at all, as long as you don't carry a chain or anything metal above it!
(or if you do, keep it in a plastic pouch).
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

The problem with that is i pull alot of wheelies (on private roads officer).
Why would my battery suddenly die?

Loose/intermittent connection on charging circuit?

If you put the old battery on a mains charger does it charge up ok?

A battery can just die all by itself sometimes, plates warp a bit and when they finally touch it's usually terminal.

(no pun intended)

(alright, it was. )

If it was then it the loose connection has a mind of its own cos i havent moved the bike let alone touched anything.
It charged up by the means of mains but then died almost instantly, i let the bike tick over at 14v when i checked it originally and it seemed to of held its charge cos it started fine today and the charging was the correct way around this time i.e. 13v to 14v not the other way around.

You know, Tug, it gets bloody complicated when you have two threads on the same subject.

Just a friendly hint.

Now stop it!
