hello FELLOW FIRESTORM FREAKS has anybody ever fitted any U S D forks on a firestorm if yes what forks were they and how dificult was it to do any help and advise would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
apparently blade front ends fit right onto storms withouut any difficulty
but daz is the man to speak to about that.
you will get him on the mcn site under the name stormsmasher.
I'll go with that Luca, 97 Blade forks and yokes will go straight in, same calipers and everything. Go up to 98 Blade forks and the forks are about 30mm shorter (about 30 but as I'm not at home to check I'll just saw 30mm) and then the calipers have different mounts etc etc. I used 98 ones, much more fiddling about.
I think if you used USD's you would have big problems with radiator clearances on full lock and tank/bar clearance. Had an MV Augusta (can't spell) front end once but there was no way it was gonna fit.
Fireblade '98-'00 forks use different yokes (less offset and legs are wider apart - fnarr! fnarr!) which means you have to add new discs to list of parts to change (Blackbird discs can be used instead of the '98 Fireblade's, if necessary).
If you change the discs, it's not necessary to change calipers or use different brakets.
mine has 98 blade forks (Tech 2000 revalved and sprung), with AP GP discs, 98 blade PFM calipers and the yokes are 225 centres (98 blade plus 10mm) for the endurance quick release mechanism and 27.5mm offset. Had me yokes made to 50mm and sleeved down to 45mm so that even bigger forks could be used if needed.
i was talking to a guy at the BMF in September, he was telling me about his track-day VTR, which he fitted a ZX9R front end to, he reckoned
it needed "a bit of machining", but otherwise was easy to fit, and really beefed up those saggy forks we all know & love...
